About Our Customizable Curriculum

Digital Respons-Ability has a curriculum for Elementary and Secondary students, tailored towards each grade level.

Each course is usually taught in a block of around 45 minutes, depending on your school’s schedule and the age of the students.

We are happy to work around your specific needs, but we do like to keep the class sizes to around 30 as that allows for more interaction among students and trainers.

Our sister nonprofit Digital Citizenship Foundation proves live services to students and parents. Contact them to learn more.

Student courses start at $75/class*

*Digital Respons-Ability is physically based in the state of Utah. These rates differ from other participating states and does not reflect travel fees outside of the Wasatch Front.

This is the content we can cover in your classroom. Click on the arrow to learn more about each module or download the Module Overview here.

Elementary Modules

The computational thinking module teaches students about basic coding concepts and algorithms. They learn how computers think and how technology affects our daily life.

In this module, students will learn that it’s essential to ask for permission to use the internet, what to do if something inappropriate pops up, and what it means to do the right thing online.

This module will help students understand fake news and how to fact-check. They will also understand how media and communications work using the Who, What, When, and Where method.

For the digital wellness module, students will learn about finding a healthy balance between technology and other parts of their lives. They will also learn how to make their own digital SMART goals.

Students will learn about social media and online discussion. They will learn about appropriate peer-to-peer communication usage and model their newfound knowledge.

Students will understand the benefits and positives of technology. They will review the basics of digital etiquette (Netiquette) and learn what it takes to become a digital citizen.

Secondary Modules

The internet is all around us, but do we really understand how it works? In this module, students will be learning about the history of technology and the internet. They will also learn about bias and how to use critical thinking when evaluating information online.

In this module, students will begin to understand how our personal data interacts with the digital space. They will also think critically about where and how to digitally communicate with different audiences.

In this module, students will learn about using internet content wisely and keeping their data safe. They will also understand the basics of digital law, including copyright and what can and can’t be shared online.

This module will teach students how the internet can be used for good. Whether it is creating new content or helping to cure cancer, everyone connected to the web can make the world a better place. Students will understand how the internet helps them become good, and global, digital citizens.

Figuring out money can be scary and confusing. As a result, the majority of Americans avoid budgeting. In this module, students will learn some of the skills they need to make smart financial choices. They will also learn about some digital finance tools and online financial scams to avoid.

Technology is a great tool, but it can take up time, energy, and sleep. Social media is a great way to connect but can also cause feelings of loneliness. In this module, students learn about using those online tools in healthier ways.

What type of person do you want to be online? What do you want others to think of you? This module will help students learn how to use their online time responsibly and teach them to set goals for digital use.

Technology has changed how we find colleges, apply for scholarships and apply for jobs. This module will teach students how to find grants, scholarships, a college, and a job. It will also help them better understand how their digital footprint and digital identity can be perceived by others.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. HOW LONG DO THE STUDENT PRESENTATIONS/MODULES TAKE?

The in-person presentations are designed to be one class period – ideally around 45 minutes but can be shorter or longer, depending on your school’s schedule. Each digital citizenship online student module take 15-20 minutes to complete. If you want to get a free DEMO of the modules to see the different topics and how it looks, please let us know.

2. CAN WE PICK DIFFERENT MODULES FOR DIFFERENT GRADE LEVELS AND AGES FOR OUR SCHOOL?

Yes! We’ve gone into schools and sometimes taught module 2 for one grade and module 3 for another. Digital citizenship is a broad topic and we want to tailor our content to the needs of all your students.

3. HOW DOES YOUR STUDENT CURRICULUM SUPPORT STATE REQUIREMENTS AND STANDARDS?

Our digital citizenship online student modules are used in multiple states. To see how they may align with your state standards please contact us. For an alignment sheet on how our student modules connect with ISTE Standards: For Students download our informational sheets here:

  • Respons-Able Student Online Modules Course 1
  • Respons-Able Student Online Modules Course 2

For Utah schools: Our digital citizenship curriculum is based off of both Utah Common Core Standards and the ISTE Standards: For Students. It also fulfills the requirements outlined in House Bill 213: Safe Technology Utilization and Digital Citizenship in Public Schools.

4. WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE FOR YOUR CLASSES TO BE TAUGHT?

We generally teach individual classes in their classrooms but can also utilize special instruction time, homeroom, computer time, etc.

Over the years we have partnered with libraries, after school programs, nonprofits and more. Digital citizenship is a topic that affects everyone so we work to be flexible to whatever organization, environment and population we have the opportunity to teach.

5. HOW LONG ARE YOUR DIGITAL PARENTING CLASSES?

Both our virtual and in-person digital parenting classes are about 90 minutes long. They can be adjusted to smaller sessions as part of a larger program. Our digital parenting classes are available in English and Spanish.

6. WHAT OTHER TRAININGS DO YOU DO IN THE STATE OF UTAH?
